General Questions
Is Convert My Media really free to use?
Yes, absolutely! Our service is completely free with no hidden fees, subscriptions, or watermarks. We believe in providing value without barriers. You can convert unlimited files without any restrictions.
How does the privacy protection work?
All file processing happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly technology. Your files never leave your device and are not uploaded to our servers. This ensures complete privacy and security for your sensitive media files.
What browsers are supported?
We support all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. For the best experience, we recommend using the latest version of Chrome or Firefox. Mobile browsers are also supported, though with some limitations on file size and processing speed.
Are there any file size limits?
Yes, we have file size limits to ensure optimal performance: 200MB for desktop users and 50MB for mobile users. These limits help maintain fast processing speeds and prevent browser crashes. For larger files, we recommend using desktop devices.
How long does conversion take?
Conversion time depends on file size, format, and your device's processing power. Typically, a 10-minute audio file takes 1-2 minutes to convert, while a 5-minute video might take 2-5 minutes. Desktop devices generally process files faster than mobile devices.

Can I convert between any formats?
Yes! You can convert between any supported audio formats and any supported video formats. You can also extract audio from video files and convert it to any audio format. However, you cannot directly convert audio to video or vice versa - you can only extract audio from video.
What's the difference between lossy and lossless formats?
Lossy formats (MP3, AAC, MP4) use compression that permanently removes some data to reduce file size. The quality loss is usually minimal and acceptable for most uses. Lossless formats (FLAC, WAV, ALAC) preserve all original data while still reducing file size through compression. Choose lossy for smaller files and universal compatibility, or lossless for perfect quality and archiving.
Quality & Settings
What bitrate should I use for audio?
The optimal bitrate depends on your use case:
- • Music (High Quality): 256-320 kbps
- • Music (Standard): 192 kbps
- • Voice/Podcast: 128 kbps
- • Background Music: 96-128 kbps
How do I choose the right video quality settings?
Consider your target platform and audience:
- • YouTube: 1080p at 8-12 Mbps
- • Instagram: 1080x1080 or 1080x1920
- • TikTok: 1080x1920 (vertical)
- • Web sharing: 720p at 2-5 Mbps
- • Email: 480p at 1-2 Mbps
Should I use VBR or CBR for audio?
VBR (Variable Bitrate) automatically adjusts bitrate based on audio complexity, providing better quality-to-size ratio. CBR (Constant Bitrate) uses a fixed bitrate throughout the file. Use VBR for music and complex audio, CBR for voice and simple audio where predictable file sizes are important.
What sample rate should I use?
For most purposes, use 44.1 kHz (CD quality). Use 48 kHz for professional video work or when working with video audio. Higher sample rates (96 kHz) are only necessary for professional audio production and result in much larger files.
Troubleshooting
My conversion failed. What should I do?
Try these solutions in order:
- Check if your file is corrupted or damaged
- Verify the file format is supported
- Try a different output format
- Reduce file size or quality settings
- Refresh the page and try again
- Use a different browser
- Try on desktop if using mobile
The converted file has poor quality. How can I fix this?
To improve quality:
- • Increase bitrate settings
- • Use a lossless format (FLAC, WAV)
- • Check the quality of your source file
- • Avoid multiple conversions
- • Use appropriate sample rate (44.1kHz for music)
The conversion is taking too long. Is this normal?
Processing time depends on file size, format complexity, and your device. Large files or complex formats take longer. If it's taking unusually long, try reducing file size, using a simpler format, or switching to desktop. Mobile devices are slower than desktop for large files.
I can't upload my file. What's wrong?
Check these common issues:
- • File size exceeds limits (200MB desktop, 50MB mobile)
- • File format is not supported
- • File is corrupted or damaged
- • Browser doesn't support file upload
- • File has special characters in name
The download doesn't start. What should I do?
If the download doesn't start automatically, try right-clicking the download button and selecting "Save link as" or "Download linked file". Check your browser's download settings and ensure pop-ups are allowed. Some browsers may block automatic downloads for security reasons.
